THE GIANT SOAKER HOSE

THE GIANT SOAKER HOSE (PATENT PENDING) IS A NEW TECHNOLOGY FOR PROTECTING HOMES AND OTHER STRUCTURES FROM WILDFIRES. FORMER WILDLAND FIREFIGHTER DEAN LANDERS, INVENTOR OF THE GIANT SOAKER HOSE, IS THE FIRST PERSON IN THE WORLD TO SUPERSIZE  THE BASIC GARDEN SOAKER HOSE CONCEPT FOR WILDFIRE PROTECTION AND IRRIGATION. TESTED BY THE UNITED STATES FOREST SERVICE AND RECOMMENDED BY CALFIRE, THE GIANT SOAKER HOSE IS USED BY WILDFIRE PROTECTION GOVERNMENT AGENCIES AND HOMEOWNERS TO HELP PROTECT LIVES AND PROPERTY FROM THE INCREASING THREAT OF WILDFIRES DUE TO GLOBAL WARMING.

GIANT SOAKER HOSE SPECIFICATIONS:

EACH UNIT (HOSES CAN BE HOOKED TOGETHER) IS 100 FEET (18.5 LBS) OF 1.5 INCH DIAMETER LAYFLAT PVC HOSE WITH HOLES THAT EVENLY DISPERSES 20 TO 100 GALLONS OF WATER PER MINUTE (DEPENDING ON PUMP THROTTLE SETTING) 15 TO 20 FEET ALONG EACH SIDE OF THE GIANT SOAKER HOSE, WETTING THE AREA COVERED (i.e. HOUSE ROOF AND PERIMETER 0F HOUSE) ON A CONSTANT BASIS, THEREBY MAKING THE GIANT SOAKER HOSE MORE EFFECTIVE THAN SPRINKLERS WHICH COVER A GIVEN AREA WITH WATER ONLY ON AN INTERMITTENT BASIS AS THEY GO AROUND IN A CIRCLE.

HOW TO USE THE GIANT SOAKER HOSE:

HOOK THE GIANT SOAKER HOSE UP TO 4 TO 9+ HORSEPOWER WATER PUMP (GAS OR ELECTRIC) AND INSERT YOUR SUCTION HOSE IN WATER SOURCE (POOL, TANK, WATER BLADDER, POND, STREAM, RESERVOIR, LAKE OR RIVER).   PRIOR TO WILDFIRE REACHING YOUR HOME (WATCH NEWS AND EMERGENCY BROADCASTS AND ONLINE INFORMATION), LAY THE GIANT SOAKER HOSE OVER YOUR ROOF AND AROUND STRUCTURE. TURN ON PUMP AND DOUSE YOUR HOUSE WITH WATER THAT CREATES A WET MICROCLIMATE, CAUSING THE FIRE TO GO AROUND YOUR HOUSE, RATHER THAN BURNING IT DOWN. THE GIANT SOAKER HOSE CAN BE LEFT RUNNING IF YOU NEED TO EVACUATE.

THERE ARE NO GUARANTEES WITH MOTHER NATURE, HOWEVER SOME WILDFIRE PROTECTION TECHNOLOGIES ARE BETTER THAN OTHER APPROACHES, PARTICULARLY TECHNOLOGIES LIKE THE GIANT SOAKER HOSE (20 TO 100 GALLONS OF WATER PER MINUTE) THAT EMIT HIGHER QUANTITIES OF WATER. STANDARD HOUSEHOLD GARDEN HOSES ONLY OUTPUT FIVE GALLONS OF WATER PER MINUTE.

Giant Soaker Instructions

Disclaimer:

“In no event shall the Giant Soaker Company be liable  for any direct, indirect, punitive, incidental, special consequential damages, to property or life, whatsoever arising out of or connected with the use or misuse of our products.”

HOW THE GIANT SOAKER IRRIGATION/WILDFIRE SPRINKLER HOSE (PATENT PENDING) WORKS:

A common garden soaker hose waters an area on each side of the hose by means of small holes located along the entire length of the hose which is capped off at the end. A standard 5/8 inch diameter garden soaker hose will emit about 5 gallons of water per minute. The Giant Soaker Irrigation/Wildfire Sprinkler Hose is 1.5 inches in diameter (layflat pvc hose in 100 foot lengths with a choice of connections and an endcap) and emits up to 100+ gallons a minute (supplied by a gas powered water pump drawing water from any water source, i.e. pool, tank, pond, well, reservoir, lake, river, stream, creek etc.). THE GIANT SOAKER WATER OUTPUT OF UP TO 100 GPM IS 20 TIMES THE WATER DISPERSION RATE (5 GPM) OF A GARDEN SOAKER HOSE. Giant Soaker protects structures and property from an advancing wildfire by creating a water doused fire line on and around the building. This wet ‘microclimate’ provides a ‘no-go’ zone for wildfires advancing on the structure, causing fires to flare over or go around Giant Soaker protected buildings. Invented by Dean Landers (a former wildland firefighter), tested by the United States Forest Service, and recommended by CalFire, Giant Soaker is a major step forward in technology used for protecting property from wildfires. Existing wildfire protection technology includes complicated, expensive sprinkler systems that are difficult to install and move, and provide significantly less water output to protect your building. Also, the Giant Soaker can be easily laid out in unlimited configurations over and around the base of your house (i.e. vents, under eaves etc.), helping prevent embers, firebrands and sparks from igniting your structure. Powered by a gasoline pump, the Giant Soaker is totally independent of electrical sources required by many conventional wildfire protection systems. When there is a wildfire, there can be a power outage. Given the output of the Giant Soaker (up to 100 gallons per minute or 6000 gallons per hour), Giant Soaker emits as much water as a DC 10 water bomber-capacity 10,000 gallons-every 2 hours.  Note:  A cheap water storage device is a $200 Intex 6200 gallon inflatable pool (available on Amazon) that you can fill up with your garden hose.

1. The Giant Soaker now enables two methods of utilizing a water pump or pool pump/cart: a. a spray nozzle that you hold and spray water over and around your house. b. Attaching the Giant Soaker Hose to the end of your pump or pool pump/cart hose and laying it around the house for automatic water distribution once your pump is turned on. You may want to purchase two pumps or pool pump/carts in order to utilize both methods of delivering water to your structure.

2. You must plan how you are going to lay out the Giant Soaker to best protect your property from wildfires. The first step in this process is to determine the location of your water source(s) (i.e. pool, tank, stream, lake etc.) relevant to the position of your house. Water sources nearest your structure, enable more Giant Soaker Hose to be used for protecting your building rather than running water to it. The basic method of laying out your Giant Soaker is to run the hose (pump not on, no water in hose) up to the top your roof (so it gravity feeds), around the perimeter of your roof, then back on the ground around the circumference of your structure about 5 feet from the bottom edge of your building. Note: When placing the Giant Soaker around the perimeter of your roof, lay out the Giant Soaker evenly over one side of the roof to the other side of the roof and then back, so that the Giant Soaker weight on each side balances out, preventing movement of the hose. The size of your building or house will determine how the Giant Soaker is laid out in terms of the available length of hose related to the dimensions of your structure. If you have a large building and property, you have the option of purchasing multiple Giant Soaker Hoses and pumps or pool pump/carts to better protect larger structures.. Given the above factors, we recommend you focus on protecting your structure with secondary attention to applying water on adjoining lawns and other land around your building or home. If you have a fire resistant roof, you can use more of the Giant Soaker Hose around the base of your home to protect against embers, firebrands and sparks from getting in vents, under eaves and into other access/ignition points. Note: You can use standard forestry hoses (no holes, bigger diameter the better) as feeder hoses to carry the water from the tank, pool etc. to where you want to deploy the Giant Soaker Hoses (i.e. on and around the structure). Also, several Giant Soaker hoses can be connected together.

3. We recommend that you deploy and test your Giant Soaker System before using it in an actual fire situation. Thus, when an actual wildfire threatens your structure(s), you can quickly install the Giant Soaker knowing what it's capabilities are in terms of applying water to protect your property. Depending on the circumstances of a particular fire incident, you can easily move the Giant Soaker around in unlimited configurations to best protect your home or other structure.

4.  Before starting your pump or pool cart/pump, set your pump throttle level to the lowest position, so that water gradually fills the Giant Soaker Hose before you move the pump throttle to the highest setting. After the Giant Soaker Hose is filled up along the entire length, examine the complete system to make sure water is coming out of all holes and check the intake end of your suction hose to make sure it is positioned properly to ensure a steady water supply. If everything is working okay, move the throttle to the highest setting to maximize water dispersion along the entire length of the Giant Soaker. The more water you apply to dousing your building, the better the Giant Soaker is able to protect your building from wildfires. Once you have successfully tested your Giant Soaker, turn off the pump and wait until all the water runs out of the Giant Soaker Hose before putting it away. At your option, if it is fire season and you are not worried about the cosmetic appearance of your home or structure (with the Giant Soaker on and around it), you can leave the system in place so it can be turned on quickly.

5. If you live in a wildfire prone area, continually monitor news sources (television, cell or landline phones, internet, portable radios, weather radios, shortwave radio etc.) to find out when wildfires break out in your locale. Important: The earlier you have warning of a threatening wildfire, the sooner you can deploy and turn on your Giant Soaker Hose so that the maximum amount of water douses your property prior to the fire arriving on your doorstep. Follow all instructions of local police, fire and government authorities regarding the potential need for you to evacuate your property. SAFETY IS NUMBER 1. If you need to evacuate your home, you can leave the Giant Soaker on (with filled up gas tank and auxiliary gas tanks etc.) to continue to protect your structure after you have evacuated to a safe location. THE GREATER VOLUME OF WATER YOU APPLY TO YOUR PROPERTY, PRIOR TO AND DURING THE FIRE, THE MORE PROTECTION THE GIANT SOAKER PROVIDES FOR YOUR HOME.
